Android : Using a repository to build android from source

on Monday, July 7, 2014

First of thanks to everyone who reads this and trys to help out, appreciate it. My problem is that im am quite new to using Git and for that matter developing roms for android. Still i wanted to take a shot at it. Im trying to build CM11 for HTC Legend, using some repo available at SimplicityCM's github. My problem is how do i download that data to work with it using git.

Before you start shouting your heads off that i should use google, be it known that i have exhausted the first 3 pages of google on different searches regarding this. Most say i should use a local_manifest.xml to override the default_manifest but i cannot understand how to make the local_manifest. i went through alot of people's copies of their own but everyone uses a different format of different commands. Some contain lines that others don't :/ its confusing for me. i tried making alot of local_manifest.xml files ending up with a connection error.

In other places i saw guides which said to work with a project i need to fork from it and then bring it down to my machine. Do these two methods differ in how they handle the data? or do both do the same thing? if they differ which one to use? I also read in a guide that i should use the git pull and git fetch command instead..... as u can see im quite confused here... Im sorry for such a long question but i've been at this for days to no avail, yes im a sorry noob who should die in hell for not being able to create a simple file in days. but well thats how it is ...

any help would be appreciated.
