Android : Shunra Network Virtualization algorithm

on Tuesday, September 30, 2014

We are doing performance testing of our mobile app with the android emulator using the default 3g/Wifi link emulation models. These are basically a leaky bucket implementation with uplink/downlink bandwidth, latency, and packet loss parameters to set (as verified from the emulator source code). We were wondering if we should invest in something more realistic like Shunra network virtualization.

My question is what kind of algorithms does Shunra virtualization use for emulating network links? Are they any different from algorithms like leaky bucket/ token bucket etc.

In that case, the only value add is their extensive database support for different link parameters (bandwidth, packet loss, delay) collected from real mobile devices across different locations at different times and across different carriers.

Thanks in Advance
