Android : Access file created by MediaScanner with Phonegap

I'm trying to create an app which at it's heart will be a music player, among other things. I want to be able to search the phone quickly and generate a list of all music on the phone.

I am using Phonegap to create this app, and would like to avoid creating a plugin if I can.

I've been doing a lot of googling and found references to the phone creating a list of all media files when it starts and runs MediaScanner. Is there a way to access this list, specifically a way to do it with JavaScript, HTML5 or Phonegap?
