Android : Retrieve blob data and show image in imageview (ANDROID)

on Saturday, October 25, 2014

I was trying to save image to database (An android app) using JSON , PHP Mysql. I hope i was successful in saving image to database. But i'm not getting how to retrieve image ! bellow is the code i used to save image to database.

/**
* Creating product
* */
protected String doInBackground(String... args) {
String name = inputName.getText().toString();
String price = inputPrice.getText().toString();
String description = inputDesc.getText().toString();
inputImage.buildDrawingCache();
Bitmap bmap = inputImage.getDrawingCache();

// Building Parameters
List<NameValuePair> params = new ArrayList<NameValuePair>();
params.add(new BasicNameValuePair("name", name));
params.add(new BasicNameValuePair("price", price));
params.add(new BasicNameValuePair("description", description));
params.add(new BasicNameValuePair("picture", bmap.toString()));

// getting JSON Object
// Note that create product url accepts POST method
JSONObject json = jsonParser.makeHttpRequest(url_create_product,
"POST", params);

// check log cat fro response
Log.d("Create Response", json.toString());

// check for success tag
try {
int success = json.getInt(TAG_SUCCESS);

if (success == 1) {
// successfully created product
Intent i = new Intent(getApplicationContext(), AllProductsActivity.class);
startActivity(i);

// closing this screen
finish();
} else {
// failed to create product
}
} catch (JSONException e) {
e.printStackTrace();
}

return null;
}

/**
* After completing background task Dismiss the progress dialog
* **/
protected void onPostExecute(String file_url) {
// dismiss the dialog once done
pDialog.dismiss();
}

}

here is the PHP file for it !

<?php

// array for JSON response
$response = array();

if (isset($_POST['name']) && isset($_POST['price']) && isset($_POST['description']) && isset($_POST['picture'])) {

$name = $_POST['name'];
$price = $_POST['price'];
$description = $_POST['description'];
$picture = $_POST['picture'];

// include db connect class
require_once __DIR__ . '/db_connect.php';

// connecting to db
$db = new DB_CONNECT();

// mysql inserting a new row
$result = mysql_query("INSERT INTO products(name, price, description,picture) VALUES('$name', '$price', '$description','$picture')");

// check if row inserted or not
if ($result) {
// successfully inserted into database
$response["success"] = 1;
$response["message"] = "Product successfully created.";

// echoing JSON response
echo json_encode($response);
} else {
// failed to insert row
$response["success"] = 0;
$response["message"] = "Oops! An error occurred.";

// echoing JSON response
echo json_encode($response);
}
} else {
// required field is missing
$response["success"] = 0;
$response["message"] = "Required field(s) is missing";

// echoing JSON response
echo json_encode($response);
}
?>

and to retrieve the the data here is the php code

<?php

// array for JSON response
$response = array();

// include db connect class
require_once __DIR__ . '/db_connect.php';

// connecting to db
$db = new DB_CONNECT();

// get all products from products table
$result = mysql_query("SELECT *FROM products") or die(mysql_error());

// check for empty result
if (mysql_num_rows($result) > 0) {
// looping through all results
// products node
$response["products"] = array();

while ($row = mysql_fetch_array($result)) {
// temp user array
$product = array();
$product["pid"] = $row["pid"];
$product["name"] = $row["name"];
$product["price"] = $row["price"];
$product["description"] = $row["description"];
$product["picture"]= $row["picture"];
$product["created_at"] = $row["created_at"];
$product["updated_at"] = $row["updated_at"];

// push single product into final response array
array_push($response["products"], $product);
}
// success
$response["success"] = 1;

// echoing JSON response
echo json_encode($response);
} else {
// no products found
$response["success"] = 0;
$response["message"] = "No products found";

// echo no users JSON
echo json_encode($response);
}
?>

here is the code to display the image in android ..

// JSON Node names
private static final String TAG_SUCCESS = "success";
private static final String TAG_PRODUCT = "product";
private static final String TAG_PID = "pid";
private static final String TAG_NAME = "name";

// Getting complete product details in background thread

// save button click event

pDialog.setMessage("Loading product details. Please wait...");
pDialog.setIndeterminate(false);

// getting product details by making HTTP request
// Note that product details url will use GET request
JSONObject json = jsonParser.makeHttpRequest(
url_product_detials, "GET", params);

// check your log for json response
Log.d("Single Product Details", json.toString());

// json success tag
success = json.getInt(TAG_SUCCESS);
if (success == 1) {
// successfully received product details
JSONArray productObj = json
.getJSONArray(TAG_PRODUCT); // JSON Array

// get first product object from JSON Array
JSONObject product = productObj.getJSONObject(0);

// product with this pid found
// Edit Text

txtPrice = (EditText) findViewById(R.id.inputPrice);
txtDesc = (EditText) findViewById(R.id.inputDesc);
imgImage = (ImageView) findViewById(R.id.editimage);

// display product data in EditText
txtName.setText(product.getString(TAG_NAME));
txtPrice.setText(product.getString(TAG_PRICE));
txtDesc.setText(product.getString(TAG_DESCRIPTION));
// I get error here as saying "No value for PICTURE :( "
byte [] encodeByte=Base64.decode(product.getString(TAG_IMAGE),Base64.DEFAULT);
Bitmap bitmap=BitmapFactory.decodeByteArray(encodeByte, 0, encodeByte.length);
imgImage.setImageBitmap(bitmap);

}else{
// product with pid not found
}
} catch (JSONException e) {
e.printStackTrace();
}
}
});

return null;
}

/**
* After completing background task Dismiss the progress dialog
* **/
protected void onPostExecute(String file_url) {
// dismiss the dialog once got all details
pDialog.dismiss();
}
}
