Android : Tabs in android with viewpager and custom viewpagerindicator

I know that tabs in android are deprecated. I want to implement a layout similar to Instagram's's. Where the tabs are at the bottom and i click the indicators to change them accordingly. how can i achieve that?Or do I have to use the tabs even though they are deprecated. Here is an image of what I mean.
